• Massena Barbera 2012

A mechanical pop and a small plume of vapour as I remove the seal. No one is watching so I raise the glass to my ear for the tinkle of small bubbles. I wait for the distraction of the the CO2 to pass, but even so the first sip is more cola than wine. . . A old leathe ...

    • Langmeil, SMG, Three Gardens, Barossa, Australia, 2011, 14.5% abv, C$30

Any excuse – yes, give me one and I’ll open up a GSM. In this case, I can blame having to open that lovely blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre on my 17 year old’s birthday dinner. I noticed on the back label Langmeil actually lists the varietals as Syrah, Mataro and Grenache. I’ve never seen Mataro used before – but of course, Mataro is Aussie for Monastrell / Mourvedre.

…" into the evening's wine. 1750. 2005 The Colonial Estate - Alexander Laing Single Vineyard Old Vine Grenache (Barossa Valley - Australia) Lucky for us, this turned out to be a hidden treasure from the cellar. … Photo from Normally, that fireworks photo would have been one of our own and I wouldn't have lifted if from Huffington Post, but as you'll see with the post, my bloglife is a little out of skew nowadays - and desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm what we'll call "hazardously behind" in my postings. I haven't lost…
