    • Wine Review: Artesa Chardonnay Carneros 2011

Artesa is one of my favorite Napa area wineries. Their Carneros location is gorgeous—you can see San Pablo Bay on a clear day—and their reserve and limited release wines are always worth tasting. The larger production Signature series is usually consistent and well done. It was an Artesa Pinot Noir that piqued my interest in wine. So I had my usual high expectations when opening this bottle.

  • Truchard

…? Looks like a Queen sitting in state. Nature really is amazing. Well known for Pinot Noir, given the ideal grown area in Carneros, Truchard also produces some lovely Chardonnay, but my personal favorite is the Syrah. The smokey funk on the end of this medium bodied Syrah, made as an homage to Cote Rotie and the Truchard family legacy, compliments…

  • Exiting 2014 with Pretty Bubbles in Pink and Gold

… We celebrated the end of 2014 with a visit to Gloria Ferrer, one of my favorite sparkling wine producers in California. It was brisk in Sonoma but still warm enough to sit outside on the sunny patio. What better way to toast an exciting year than with pretty pink bubbly! The 2010 Brut Rose's toasty nose with rose flowers led to a palate…

  • 2012 Patz & Hall ‘Hyde Vineyard’ Chardonnay, Carneros

… 2012 Patz & Hall ‘Hyde Vineyard’ Chardonnay, Carneros Clear deep straw color, this unfined and unfiltered wine is already throwing tartrate “wine crystals.” In the nose, high-toned baking spices and butter intermingle with a scent of orange extract. The initial palate impression is viscous and mouth-coating, then it lightens up at mid…

… A pair of Californian Chardonnay from 2012 The 2012 Antica, Chardonnay, Napa Valley provides the same impeccable level of balance I experienced with the previous vintage.
