Gewurztraminer

A slew of summer wines from Ontario reviewed from Fielding, Tawse, EastDell, Colio, Chateau des Charmes, Trius and 13th Street. Cheers!

Ahhh, summer, where the living is easy and the wine better fit perfectly on the porch, dock or poolside or we just aren’t drinking it. Give me fresh. Give me easy. Give me juicy fruit. Is that too much to ask for? It hasn’t been the greatest of summers, at least where I live in Niagara.

      Lake Effect

Pennsylvania Vine Company - - 5 readers - This is the second half of my Finger Lakes wine country report. Part one can be found here. There’s a place in my mind. It’s embellished by verdant, wide-openness, tickly breezes and cold, lapping water. Meandering roads circle the area, winding by Amish farms and Sunday flea markets stuffed with rural ephemera. Fine wine, often crisp as green apples, is made here.

The Wine Curmudgeon - - 4 readers - Reviews of wines that don’t need their own post, but are worth noting for one reason or another. Look for it on the final Friday of each month. • Da Vinci Chianti 2011 ($12. sample, 13.5%): Much, much better than the past couple of vintages of this Italian red, with an effort made to make it taste more like Chianti and less like merlot from California.
