Super Tuscan

Tuscan wine (Italian Toscana) is Italian wine from the Tuscany region. Located in central Italy along the Tyrrhenian coast, Tuscany is home to some of the world's most notable wine regions. Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are primarily made with Sangiovese grape whereas the Vernaccia grape is the basis of the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Tuscany is also known for the dessert wine Vin Santo, made from a variety of the region's grapes. Tuscany has thirty-three Denominazioni di origine controllata (DOC) and nine Denominazioni di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG). In the 1970s a new class of wines known in the trade as "Super Tuscans" emerged.

… Bello for an Italian repast, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that I'm adding a couple of Italian wines to The List tonight. It's far more surprising - to me at least - that I'm only adding two bottles. The Boss likes throwing out a good selection of wines at the start of the evening - a couple of this and two or three of that - but I didn't start…

This is basically a made up term for Italian wines that choose not to adhere to the winemaking laws of the Tuscan region and put whatever they feel is best in the blend. Traditionally, Tuscan wines are all Sangiovese. But newer wineries wanted to evolve and plant other grape varietals. The Sassicaia people thought the terroir…

However, he gave them the 2010 vintage (which goes for about $450). That’s like wearing a Zac Posen dress before it’s properly sewn together. A hearty red blend of Cab and Sangiovese shouldn’t be drunk…

… world . In a blind tasting in London in 1978 , Sassicaia beat all of its competitors , including top wines from Bordeaux. Such an event does not go unnoticed , it can hardly compare with the legendary Paris Tasting . After paving the way for the concept of Super Tuscans . Normally Super Tuscan wines declassified as IGT wines, but exactly Sassicaia…
