  • Scotto Old Vine Zinfandel 2009

… aside, how was the wine? It was a good dark purple with reasonable legs. It smelled good, perfectly autumnal with black fruits and a little sweet spice and vanilla, the comfort food flavours in a wine. It tasted good too. It’s dry with a medium soft acidity and soft ripe tannins, along with a bonus wood tannin. It’s medium bodied with an alcohol level…

  • Dr. Konstantin Frank Gewurztraminer `10 $18.99 *** #Wine #ChickenSoup

It's official, here in New York, the seasons have changed. There's a chill in the air, and in the morning I can see my coffee breath as I head off to work. These cold mornings and falling leaves call us to hearth and home. For me, home is that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when the simmering scents of cooking waft from the kitchen for hours, music is playing in the background ...

  • On Location: Diamond Knot Brewing

… Posted By Brian on Oct 19, 2014 in Blog, USA | While my recent trip to Portland was notable for a distinct lack of actual brewery visits, I wasn’t going to let that happen on a trip down to Seattle. Once again, the Whitecaps provided a great excuse to take a day off and head down to Seattle for the day, drink a lot of good beer and celebrate…

  • Nicest Summer White

… ANOTHER CANDIDATE FOR NICEST SUMMER WHITE IN THE WORLD (Yes… still celebrating ‘summer’) Symphony is a Calif clone of Muscat so expect a wine that’s “seductively aromatic” to quote the back label. Another good descriptor on the back label is “delightful”, especially when sipped alfresco on a sunny day. As with most Muscat wines, the feeling…

  • Yawny Monday – Steller Sea Lion

… Hey there y’all! :-) Hope everyone is doing fine, easing into Fall. I am still under the gun at work, but hopeful that things will go back to quasi-normal sooner rather than later. Bear with me a little longer, if you will… To start off your week with a… big yawn, here is an image of a Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) that I took while…

  • PDT, Alder, & A Wonderful Wine Weekend!

… tastes like eating a bowl of pastrami sandwich), a savory and complex rabbit sausage, and the daily special, a spicy fried chicken. The GM/Somm Siobhan Lowe has a captivating smile and a brilliant wine list. I asked her to pair wines for me and she thrilled my glass and palate. I was equally captivated by her “wines by women” listing, which…

  • 2012 Franciscan Chardonnay

2012 Franciscan Chardonnay Pale in color with a lovely varietal nose. On the mid pallet the wine displays lovely chard fruit along with some beautiful vanilla on the medium length finish. This is an elegant, bold complex rich chard. I really liked it. Be careful this is one of those chards that is very susceptible to temperature.

  • Soon to visit Stadt Klingenberg in Franconia!

… been run by the city of Klingenberg. Early reports of the 2012 vintage of Buntsandstein spatburgunder (Pinot Noir in German) point to a Burgundian style with a slight floral noise, strawberries, and moderate alcohol. The steep vineyards are said to keep the yields down without the necessity of green harvesting, and I'm eager to try the upper range…
